Several facilities such as the Rec Center, the Library, and Urbanovsky park allow anyone to get out and explore campus. A myriad of clubs and organizations are always looking for new members to join. There's plenty to do outside of academics at Tech. Prior to coming here, I used to struggle and fear the topic, but after taking Calculus I've learned that It can beautiful and sometimes wonderfully simple. Speaking of which, Texas Tech has helped me to discover my passion for mathematics. The professors and instructors do an excellent job of covering material and are usually very patient with the student body. I've become close friends with cancer survivors, people from halfway around the world, and people who've led protests! Almost everyone there is kind and willing to give you the time of day to just talk if you want.Ĭlasses at Tech are also excellent. Junior: What I love most about going to Texas Tech are the people I've met there. I've also completed four internships throughout my time at the university, and will be studying abroad in the fall! I've grown and gained so much during my time here, and I can't wait to see how much I'll learn and grow during my last year. I've been able to broaden my knowledge on the issues that plague marginalized communities around the world and through this I've been able to strengthen my reporting and story telling as a journalist. Along with that, I've been able to pursue other academic interests of mine through pursuing an additional degree in sociology and a certificate in human rights and social justice. Pursuing a career in journalism, it's an honor to be studying at one of the best journalism programs in the world! I've learned so much from such amazing and accomplished journalists, and I've been able to grow my knowledge and journalistic writing and center in on exactly what path I want to go down in journalism. Senior: I've had an amazing experience at UT. Sometimes the off-campus activities are limited, but there is normally something happening on campus. Parking and riding the bus can be hectic although it gets easier after the first few weeks of the semester. There are several good places to dine on campus however, it can get expensive. The dorms and apartments I have lived in (Lechner, Davis-Gary, and the Gardens) have all been spacious, well-maintained, quiet, and safe. Classes can be pretty big, so it's important to stay engaged. The professors are usually organized, excellent communicators, and very willing to help students. People come from all over Texas and the world and enrich the campus discussions. The opportunities to get involved in research, service, teaching, and internships are vast! The culture is unique and friendly overall, and it is easy to find your niche and family here. Alum: Texas A&M is a great place to get an education and make friends and professional connections. We’ve seen Apple push iPad Pro as a laptop replacement with the last year’s Magic Keyboard, and the mouse support later in iPadOS 13. IPad Pro is undoubtedly one of the best (fast) computing machines out there. Keeping in mind that Geekbench 5 still has not been updated with M1 iPad Pro support, it manages to perform fairly well when comparing it to other Apple’s powerful machines. These are the average multi-core Geekbench 5 scores of M1 MacBook Air, M1 iPad Pro, 16-inch Core i9 MacBook Pro, and the A12Z Bionic iPad Pro.įor those looking for graphics performance, the M1 iPad Pro has secured an average Metal score of 20,578, which is about the double score of what the A12Z Bionic iPad Pro gets.Īnd even though these are the early benchmark results, they’re quite impressive. When comparing these results to the last-generation iPad Pro with A12Z Bionic, it managed to score an average single-core and multi-core scores of 1,121 and 4,656, respectively. The fifth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the M1 chip has managed to score a single-core score of 1,718 and a multi-core score of 7,284. Well, someone has put those claims to test as the first benchmark results of the M1 iPad Pro running Geekbench 5 are out. As a result of the new chip, Apple proclaimed that the new iPad Pro brings about a 50% bump in CPU performance and a 40% bump in GPU performance. Apple M1 is the same chip powering the newly redesigned iMac, and the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro announced last year. The new M1 iPad Pro also performs on par with the M1 MacBook Air.Īpple introduced a new iPad Pro with the M1 chip last month. Early benchmark results of the M1 iPad Pro running Geekbench 5 are out, and Apple’s latest iPad Pro has (easily) managed to beat 16-inch Core i9 MacBook Pro. This climate also has very little rainfall, resulting in large desert regions. Average temperatures during the summer usually rest at around 120 degrees Fahrenheit (49 degrees Celsius), while the winters are somewhat milder. Weather in this climate is very high during the summer and can reach dangerous levels, with parts of Iraq and Iran having recorded feel-like temperatures of over 160 degrees Fahrenheit (71 degrees Celsius). The majority of the Middle East region is characterized by a warm desert climate. Some examples include the island of Abu Musa in the Persian Gulf, which is administered by Iran by claimed by the United Arab Emirates, the Golan Heights plateau, which was part of Syria until it was occupied and annexed by Israel during the Six-Day War, and the region of Kurdistan, which is officially a part of northern Iraq but also has an autonomous status. Some borders within the Middle East are similarly difficult to define as a result of territorial disputes between countries within the region. Northern Cyprus declared its independence in 1983 but is only recognized as a sovereign state within the UN by Turkey, with every other member considering it as simply part of Cyprus. Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh, and South Ossetia are all located within the Caucasus region around Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Russia and all declared their independence during the 1990s, with limited recognition internationally. Palestine, which is made up of the Gaza Strip and West Bank regions in and around Israel, declared its independence in 1988 and is currently recognized as independent by 134 countries, though it is not an official member of the United Nations and is not considered to be its own countries by every G-8 nation except Russia. There are also several unrecognized or partially recognized states within the Middle East. Some of the countries bordering Iran and Afghanistan’s north, such as Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, are sometimes included within the northern borders of the Middle East, but are other times seen as their own Central Asian region alongside Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Both Afghanistan and Pakistan border Iran to the east, but Pakistan’s shared history with India causes it to sometimes be seen as part of South Asia instead of the Middle East. The eastern and northern borders of the Middle East are somewhat difficult to define. Countries along the Persian Gulf include the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iran. At the center of the Middle East rests the Persian Gulf, cutting into the region and giving it its hook-like shape. Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Oman border these waters, with Iraq and Jordan connecting them to the western part of the region. South of the Mediterranean Sea, the Red and Arabian Seas surround the southern part of the Middle East. Egypt in Africa also borders the Mediterranean and is sometimes considered as part of the Middle East, while Turkey and Cyprus literally connect Europe to Asia and oscillate between being called European and Middle Eastern.Īrmenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, all located just northeast of Turkey, are at times associated with the Middle East, Europe, Asia, or as their own separate region. The western border of the Middle East is defined by the Mediterranean Sea, where Israel, Lebanon, and Syria rest opposite from Greece and Italy in Europe. The Middle East is a geographical and cultural region located primarily in western Asia, but also in parts of northern Africa and southeastern Europe. When you agree to a BNPL provider’s terms of service, you authorise the company to make any enquiries they consider necessary to assess your capability to make payments, which may include ordering a credit report. However, while they might not do full credit checks, their T&Cs give them the authority to do so. This is why the application process is so quick and easy. Rather than a thorough full, or hard, credit check that leaves a mark on your record, they can get away with a quick check that doesn’t leave a permanent hit on your credit report. This approach has effectively addressed important health issues including alcohol abuse, tobacco, and motor vehicle accidents ( 17, 18). The public health approach has been increasingly applied to a variety of social issues in the world and involves four steps: define and monitor the problem, identify risk and protective factors, develop and test prevention strategies, and assure the widespread adoption of proven strategies including education, services, and public policy ( 16). Agenda setting has been used by researchers in diverse areas such as foreign policy, the US budget deficit, and the government response to Hurricane Katrina ( 11, 14, 15). Evidence supports these premises: “people learn from the emphasis of issues in the news media first and foremost which issues are important affect their life” ( 13). The populous in turn places a greater or lesser interest in issues depending on how much attention is given to it by the news media. Whereas the news media does not simply reflect reality but filters and shapes it ( 12), they become a gatekeeper to control “what” the public sees by devoting more or less of its online or print news pieces, screen time, or radio space to specific issues. Though both media effects have importance, this paper focuses primarily on agenda setting. Media agenda setting is a related but unique media effect that sets an agenda for public discussion by the deliberate placement or amount of coverage given to topics or events with the goal of influencing public opinion and public policy ( 10, 11). This type of media effect primarily characterizes how news reports are understood by audiences ( 10), which may change the way audiences view the problem and attribute responsibility. Through the process of framing, the media defines the problem, diagnoses the cause, and offers or justifies solutions for the problem ( 9). These opposing viewpoints, the effects of special interest groups, the second amendment, and steady firearm fatalities have mixed to create intense partisanship when dealing with gun violence in the US.Ĭlearly, the media plays important roles in the gun violence discussions by how they discuss and describe the issues. Proponents of firearm safety legislation argue that laws to expand background checks, reduce firearm lethality, and many other approaches are sensible and will prevent death and injury however, proponents of more open firearm policies argue that having guns in the hands of good people will promote safety and that restricting access to firearms will not prevent gun violence in the US. The gun debate often results in political and societal gridlock and has not resulted in public policy that either major political party finds totally acceptable ( 8). The social costs of gun violence in the US were $174 billion in 2010, $5.1 million per fatality, and $645 per gun ( 7). Firearms also play a significant role in suicide risk as a highly lethal means of suicide when available to many individuals who experience passing or impulsive suicidal thoughts ( 6). Possessing a firearm is associated with an increased risk of being murdered or assaulted with a firearm as opposed to offering protection ( 4, 5). A total of 32,888 individuals lost their lives due to firearms in 2013 with an additional 84,258 individuals experiencing non-fatal firearm related injuries ( 2, 3). In the 4 years, since the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting, where 27 were killed, over 18 other prominent shootings have since occurred in the US ( 1).
